"Platinum Award in Corporate Social Responsibility"

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd bagged the prestigious Greentech CSR Award 2011 in the Platinum Award Category in the Shipping Sector for outstanding Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) organised under the aegis of the Greentech Foundation supported and recognised by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. The Award was envisaged to be presented to companies/units demonstrating the highest level of commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. The award aims to recognise exemplary operations, systems and the evidence of their impact to business vitality.

The Award was presented at Sher- i- kashmir International Conference Centre, Srinagar at the 12^th Annual Global Environment and CSR conference on 19^th October, 2011. The Award was presented in the presence of dignitaries like Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee IAS (Retd), Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises; Shri R.H. Khwaza IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Shri Nawang Rigzin, Tourism and Culture Minister, J&K Govt.

The Shipping Corporation of India has won the prestigious Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards (SMEISA) in the category of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award for its Commitment to community welfare, Breadth of company fully involved or knowledgeable about CSR commitments and Voluntary schemes/projects initiated.

Known as the ‘Oscars’ of the maritime world, the awards were presented at the Atlantis The Palm Dubai attended by more than 750 of the who’s who of the region’s maritime and shipping industry.

“The companies that were both shortlisted for the awards and those that were winners have shown exemplary levels of achievement, in areas such as technical and operational innovation, commitment to safety and quality, social and environmental responsibility, business acumen and development of human resources. Seatrade salute them all,” said Chris Hayman, Chairman of Seatrade, the award organisers.

The awards were judged by a 12-strong panel of esteemed international judges, led by Rear Admiral Efthimios Mitropoulos, secretary general of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Shri S. Hajara, C&MD, SCI conferred on the ‘BUSINESS LEADER OF THE YEAR 2008’ Award at the Shipping & Marine World Expo 2008.  This award was presented to Shri Hajara in recognition of his contribution at the national and international level for the shipping industry.

At the India Shipping Summit 2008 held in September 2008, the SCI was presented with ‘DEAL OF THE YEAR 2008’ for its achievement of the ‘Navratna’ status and impressive order-book for newbuilding tonnage.

The Shipping Corporation of India also won the ‘Ship Owner of the Year 2007’ at Lloyds List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards, held in November 2007.

The Shipping Corporation of India also won the ‘Ship Owner / Operator of the Year 2007’ at the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards 2007, held in November 2007.

The Shipping Corporation of India was the winner of the Best International Solution Award at the 3rd Annual HSBC Global Payments and Cash Management Partnership Awards in November 2007.

Shri S. Hajara, CMD, SCI and President INSA received the “INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR” award at India Shipping Summit which was held in October 2007.

In September, 2009, the National maritime Day Celebration (Central) Committee awarded SCI the Safest & Most Environment Conscious Indian Shipping Company Award - 2009 in appreciation of SCI having shown continuous improvement with documented safety and environment protection procedures in its operations ashore and onboard.

At the Annual Indian Maritime Gateway Awards 2009, SCI awarded 'Tanker Operator of the Year' award in recognition of its outstanding role in the tanker segment under the Indian flag.  The award recognizes the strong performance displayed by the Company in this segment of shipping.
