Policy
The following ratings are required to be selected on 27.09.2018 (Thursday) at 1100 Hrs. Interested and eligible ratings are required to report in Crew Selection Hall with all valid original documents and copies of the same with proper filled up Form-12. However, all original documents should not be torn or worn out pages, staples loose/rusty, repaired by self stitching/ stapling or sticking with gum, or should not be hard cover binding etc. Failure above, they will not be eligible for selection. Crew reaching late after 1100 Hrs, will not be allowed to enter in the selection hall.
Foreign Going Tankers, VLCC, Bulk Carrier, Container and Passenger Vessels
SHM: No of Post: 12 nos.
Selected ratings will be posted on any of our tankers/ bulk carrier/container/passenger vessels as per our requirement. Ratings once selected and declared medically fit should not be allowed to take leave in general cases as they will be posted anytime in any of our above vessels.
Preference will be given to cop holders. However, we may select candidates without cop holders also if our requirement is not fulfilled.
PLEASE NOTE:
- We are selecting crew DIRECTLY for our vessels.
- We DO NOT HAVE any Agents for this selection.
- Candidates, who have not sailed with SCI Kolkata / SCI Mumbai vessels before, may appear for their selection. However, their selection is subject to fulfilment of all official criteria and management discretion.
- A) Candidates who have sailed on SCI owned/managed vessels will be given preference.
- B) Candidates who have sailed on tankers and other vessels of more than 3000 GRT will be preferred over a candidate who have sailed on smaller vessels and
- C) A candidate, new to SCI, must have Watch Keeping Certificate/ COP, Oil DC and Passenger Ship Familiarization Course certificates.
Normal practice followed by sci for selection of general roster ratings
- Requirement of various categories of ratings is determined and placed on our notice board and website.
- Normally SCI has ratings selection on every Tuesday and Thursday provided these are normal working days.
Requirements for ratings for our vessels:
- Must be in possession of valid Indian CDC, Passport and PAN card.
- Must be in possessoin of INDOS no.
- Must have completed GP Rating course(for new seaman as per DGS rule) with four basic modular courses required for seaman from DG approved institutes.
- All ratings should lbe in possession of following five mandatory certificates(STCW 2010):
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.
- Personal Survival Techniques.
- Elementary First Aid.
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities.
- STSDSD course.
- Must have completed Oil Tanker familiarization course from DG approved institutes & should be in possession of certificates/DG endorsements as per DG rules (STCW2010).
- Must have completed specialized vessel familiarization course from DG approved institutes & should be in possession of certificates/DG endorsements as per DG rules for the vessels type for which vacancies exist(STCW 2010).
- Must have at least six months of on-board rank experience for which the candidate is sitting in selection procedure.
- Good track record from his previous vessels/owners.
- Must have served on-board vessels at least for six months in last three years.
- Must be medically fit for sea service as per present medical rules, MLC-2006 and STCW-2010.
- Must have at least six months on-board rank experience in the last 3 years from the date of selection.
- Must have at least one year of service period remaining from date of retirement (60 years) on the day of selection and must have all documents valid for at least one year from day of selection .
- Must be in possession of all required valid certificates for the rank.
- Must be in possession of print out of Master Checker from DG Shipping Website in which his past sailing experience is mentioned.
Selection Proccedure
- On selection day at given time all applicants for general roster ratings must gather in our selection hall (at 2nd floor, The SCI Ltd,13,Strand Road, Kolkata-700001).
- Designated officers from Crew Section of SCI are present in Crew Selection Hall for selecting crew as per requirements.
- Each category of ratings is selected from the ratings present for selection in the crew selection place.
- When rank experienced persons are not available then best suitable candidates are selected.
- Experience of particular vessels are very necessary at times (i.e. AB having experience of only OSV may not be suitable for VLCC or other specialized vessels, where as a DUH has required certificates/endorsements/documents).
- A person who is unemployed for maximum number of period is given first chance of employment in the rank, provided he meets minimum requirements for the rank,type of vessels & other conditions.
- After selection all documents are verified and if found OK then seaman is sent for medical examination. After medical examination, medically fit ratings are alloted vessels and subsequently posted on vessels subject to completion of formalities(i.e. Visa, verification of documents, port formalities etc.)
SCI Roster seaman, who do not report for employment for preceeding five years are removed from SCI Roster list. Also thereafter they are not employed on SCI vessels as SCI Roster seaman. General Roster seaman who has not sailed for last three years shall not be considered for employment in SCI.
