For the purpose of implementing the Official Language policy of the Government of India, the SCI has been committed to increase the use of Hindi in its official functioning. In order to achieve various set goals in the Annual Program issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, SCI regularly organizes various Hindi activities and competitions (such as Linguistic Harmony Day, Noting and Drafting Writing Competition, Quiz Competition, Antakshari Contest, Speech Contest). Apart from this, Hindi Unicode computer workshops are organized every month to train employees in Hindi on computer. Desk-to-desk Hindi computer training is also provided to them as per the requirement of the employees.
Quarterly Hindi Correspondence Promotion scheme has been launched to disseminate and promote the use of Hindi through email correspondence, which has created a Hindi working environment. Employees are encouraged to participate actively in this scheme, and eligible employees are being rewarded every quarter.
Every year in September, during the Hindi Pakhwada, an appeal is issued to all the employees by CMD, which motivates and encourages them to increase Hindi work in official correspondence. A Linguistic Harmony Cultural program is also conducted for the employees, in which poetry-recital, and songs are presented in various regional Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi etc. Apart from this, SCI also participates in the half-yearly meetings of the Mumbai PSUs TOLIC and makes active contribution from time to time.
